Italy Probes Sky Exclusive World Cup Broadcast Deal

Law360, New York (November 11, 2010, 5:00 PM EST) -- Italy's antitrust watchdog has begun investigating whether News Corp. unit Sky Italia SRL abused its dominance in the pay-television broadcast market when it bought the exclusive rights to air the World Cup in 2010 and 2014 across all broadcasting platforms.

The probe will focus on Sky's 2008 purchase of the World Cup rights from Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's RAI network in 2008, the Competition Authority said Tuesday.
