Dow Jones, Financial Website End 'Hot News' Fight

Law360, New York (November 15, 2010, 6:09 PM EST) -- Dow Jones & Co. settled a suit Monday accusing financial information service Briefing.com of swiping verbatim content within minutes of its publication, after the wire service indicated to a federal judge it wanted roughly $10,000 per infringed article to drop the fight.

In a consent judgment filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Briefing.com admitted to copyright infringement, violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and common law misappropriation of “hot news.”
