Class Cert. Denied In Phillip Morris Light Cig MDL

Law360, New York (November 29, 2010, 4:09 PM EST) -- A federal judge has denied class certification to smokers in four cases in multidistrict litigation accusing Philip Morris USA Inc. of fraudulently marketing its so-called light cigarettes as less harmful than regular cigarettes.

Judge John Woodcock Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine on Wednesday denied class certification in cases originating in Illinois, California, Washington D.C. and Maine, concluding that common issues did not predominate over individual ones.
