MetLife To Pay $2.3M In Wage Deduction Action

Law360, New York (December 9, 2010, 1:41 PM EST) -- A federal judge has granted initial approval on a $2.3 million settlement between Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and insurance agents who alleged the company made improper deductions from their wages.

Judge Garrett E. Brown Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey preliminarily approved the deal Monday. The insurance agents claimed the total amount of improper deductions was about $4 million.

The settlement applies to nearly 800 insurance agents who worked for MetLife in New York and New Jersey. A separate court...
