Former DHS Contracting Officer Gets 6 Months

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 5:18 PM EST) -- A former contracting officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been sentenced to six months in prison for awarding three contracts to companies run by his wife.

Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York also ordered David Balgobin on Friday to pay a $5,000 fine, forfeit $125,000 and some property, and undergo two years of supervised release, according to U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.
