Marine Captain Gets 6 Years For Iraq Fraud

Law360, New York (February 8, 2011, 1:50 PM EST) -- A U.S. Marine Corps captain who pled guilty to skimming $1.69 million from government contracts in Iraq has been sentenced to six years in federal prison.

Eric Schmidt, 40, of Murrieta, Calif., was sentenced Monday by Judge Virginia A. Phillips of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Schmidt pled guilty in May to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and filing a false tax return that concealed the illicit income from the Internal Revenue Service.
