Faulty-Meter Class Action Against GE Powered Down

Law360, New York (February 10, 2011, 7:19 PM EST) -- A federal judge has tossed a proposed class action against General Electric Co. and others over allegedly faulty meters that caused Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to overcharge consumers, ruling that California's state courts have jurisdiction over the case.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Monday found that the case fell under the Class Action Fairness Act's so-called local controversy exception and dismissed the suit for lack of jurisdiction.
