Judge Sinks Antitrust Suit Over VeriSign Web Market

Law360, New York (February 16, 2011, 1:47 PM EST) -- A federal judge has dismissed a nonprofit group's suit accusing certificate authority VeriSign Inc. of monopolizing the Internet domain market, ruling that the plaintiff failed to demonstrate standing.

Judge Ronald M. Whyte of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California tossed the suit Friday because the Coalition for ICANN Transparency refused to identify its members, ruling that the group cannot seek disgorgement of VeriSign's profits and was not entitled to a jury trial for the type of equitable relief it seeks.
