Boeing Wins $35B Air Force Tanker Contract Over EADS

Law360 (February 24, 2011, 8:11 PM EST) -- Boeing Co. won a long-running procurement battle against rival EADS North America on Thursday, securing a $35 billion contract to replace aerial refueling tankers built during the Eisenhower-era that was originally awarded to EADS.

The Pentagon announced the award, calling Boeing a clear winner. The decision was based in part on a 1 percent difference in price that officials said would result in significant savings to taxpayers, including a consideration of lower anticipated fuel costs in Boeing's design.
