Blagojevich Tries To Escape Retrial

Law360 (March 9, 2011, 12:40 PM EST) -- Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich asked a federal judge Wednesday to call off his retrial and immediately sentence him on the sole conviction from his first trial, arguing that the government's budgetary crisis has hampered his ability to mount an effective defense.

In a five-page motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Blagojevich said his taxpayer-funded attorneys have not been paid for nine months of pretrial preparations.
