L'Oreal Can't Escape Wage Penalty Action

Law360, New York (March 23, 2011, 10:27 PM EDT) -- A California state judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss the surviving portion of a putative class action accusing L'Oreal USA Inc. of misclassifying its models as independent contractors.

Attorneys for Amanza Smith, the lead plaintiff in the nearly decade-old litigation, convinced a judge of the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles, to sustain a suit claiming the cosmetic giant waited months to pay modeling employees for their work as a result of misclassifications.
