DOJ Backs $245M Stericycle Deal With Plant Sale

Law360 (April 8, 2011, 6:51 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice ordered medical waste services provider Stericycle Inc. on Friday to sell a New York infectious waste treatment facility in order to win approval of a $245 million deal to buy rival Healthcare Waste Solutions Inc.

Without the divestiture, the acquisition would substantially decrease competition to provide infectious waste treatment services for hospitals and other health care providers in the New York region, causing prices to jump, the DOJ said.
