Judge Trims First American Title Rate Class Action

Law360, New York (April 15, 2011, 3:00 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Thursday dismissed federal and state racketeering and fraud claims from a putative class action accusing First American Title Insurance Co. of misrepresenting and inflating title insurance costs charged to homeowners.

Acting on First American's motion to toss an amended complaint in the case, Judge Renee Marie Bumb of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey dismissed without prejudice counts of federal and state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act violations, common law fraud and equitable fraud....
