Philip Morris Snuffs Out Class Cert. In Smokers' Suit

Law360 (April 19, 2011, 2:28 PM EDT) -- Philip Morris USA Inc. won a bid Monday in California to deny class certification in a lawsuit brought by a group of Marlboro cigarette smokers who want the company to bankroll a medical monitoring program to detect lung cancer.

The lawsuit is one of several similar actions brought against the tobacco giant by plaintiffs across the country. Philip Morris has had mixed results in defending the suits, winning the dismissal of one New York action earlier this year.
