DOJ OKs $3.7B Unilever, Alberto-Culver Deal Pending Sales

Law360, New York (May 6, 2011, 5:15 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday cleared Unilever Group's $3.7 billion acquisition of Alberto-Culver Co. on the condition that the Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant sells off two hair care brands.

The settlement, which requires approval from a Washington federal court, requires the three Unilever units involved in the deal — Unilever PLC, Unilever NV and New York-based Conopco Inc. — to divest their Rave brand of hairspray and mousse products as well as Alberto-Culver's Alberto VO5 brand of value hair cleansers and styling products....
