2nd Circ. Partly Stays Injunction In $18B Chevron Suit

Law360, New York (May 12, 2011, 9:23 PM EDT) -- The Second Circuit on Thursday partially stayed an injunction blocking an $18.1 billion judgment against Chevron Corp., allowing Ecuadorean plaintiffs embroiled in a pollution battle to consult their lawyers about possible enforcement of the judgment.

The court also granted the plaintiffs' request to expedite the appeal and to file oversized briefs, according to the order. The Second Circuit, however, refused to stay a trial set for November in the Southern District of New York over whether the judgment, issued by an Ecuadorean court, should be upheld....
