California Will Sue If EPA Denies Waiver Request

Law360, New York (May 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California Attorney General Jerry Brown said Tuesday that he would sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency if it blocks the state’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Speaking at an EPA hearing on the matter on Tuesday, Brown said that federal law allows California to set vehicles emissions standards that are tougher than federal regulations. Eleven states are waiting for California to set higher standards so they can follow suit, Brown said.
