FHA Doesn't Bar Biased Ads: Roommates.com To 9th Circ.

Law360, Los Angeles (July 14, 2011, 10:29 PM EDT) -- A lawyer for roommate matching service Roommates.com fighting a Fair Housing Act suit brought on behalf of the general public told the Ninth Circuit on Thursday that the statute does not prohibit discriminatory advertising for roommates.

“I hope that people are open-minded in choosing who they live with, but that doesn’t mean that we should be in a position where we’re telling people what to do,” the website’s lawyer Timothy Alger told a three-judge panel. “That’s for them to decide.”
