Countrywide Can't Dodge Sales Exec's Race Bias Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (July 21, 2011, 8:57 PM EDT) -- A California judge ruled Thursday that Countrywide Financial Corp. must defend against a discrimination lawsuit that accuses the troubled mortgage company of refusing to promote a former account executive because he is black, though the judge dismissed harassment claims against the company and individual supervisors.

Judge Rita Miller's ruling is a boost to C.J. Haliburton, who claims his supervisors routinely selected less-qualified applicants to fill lucrative managerial positions despite repeated promises that he would be promoted.
