USPTO Pulls DVD Patents In IP Suit Against WB, Others

Law360, Los Angeles (July 25, 2011, 6:58 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge announced Monday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had tentatively invalidated patents involved in Monkeymedia Inc.'s spat with units of Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and other motion picture studios over technology that allows movie-watchers to access DVD and Blu-ray bonus material.

U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks said the USPTO earlier this month rejected claims in the three patents-in-suit in Monkeymedia's lawsuit. He stayed the case until Oct. 24 and ordered an expedited re-examination of U.S. Patent Numbers 6,335,730; 6,393,158; and 7,467,218....
