Latin Jazz Artists Sue Grammy Group Over Canceled Award

Law360, New York (August 2, 2011, 9:29 PM EDT) -- A group of musicians filed a putative class action Monday in New York against the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Inc. for dropping the Latin jazz Grammy category, a decision they contend violates their membership agreement.

Academy members who filed suit — Bobby Sanabria, Ben Lapidus, Mark Levine and Eugene Marlow — say that the award was nixed April 6 after they received assurance that they could record work for a Grammy nomination.
