Topps Cries Foul In IP Suit Over Baseball Card Ad

Law360, Los Angeles (August 12, 2011, 7:55 PM EDT) -- Trading card giant The Topps Co. Inc. sued competitor Leaf Trading Cards LLC in New York federal court Thursday, claiming a Leaf advertisement featuring classic Topps trading cards infringed its copyrights and trademarks.

Thursday’s lawsuit over an ad for collector’s packages containing classic baseball cards raises questions about how far secondary market sellers can go in advertising resold trading cards, known in the industry as “buyback cards.”
