Levi, Art Galleries Shake Photo Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (August 19, 2011, 8:19 PM EDT) -- Levi Strauss & Co. Inc., several New York art galleries and photographer Ryan McGinley on Friday won a bid to dismiss claims that they infringed a rival photographer's copyright by using images derived from her work in art shows and Levi advertisements.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Sullivan said McGinley's allegedly infringing work is not at all similar to that of Janine Gordon, who sued in February and amended her complaint in March to include charges of deceptive trade practices, false advertising and trademark dilution....
