Developer Wins OK To Pursue $600M Defamation Suit

Law360, New York (August 26, 2011, 8:22 PM EDT) -- Real estate developer The Cordish Co. can pursue its $600 million defamation suit in Maryland federal court against the CEO of bankrupt casino operator Indianapolis Downs LLC after a Delaware bankruptcy judge gave it the go-ahead Friday.

Attorneys for Cordish, whose suit claims Indianapolis Downs CEO Ross J. Mangano conspired with other gaming operators to tarnish the developer’s name and interfere with its plans for another casino in Maryland, argued that the litigation wouldn't affect the debtors' chances of a smooth Chapter 11 reorganization.
