Judge To Certify Class In Chase Mortgage Rate Fight

Law360, Los Angeles (September 22, 2011, 7:00 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday indicated that he would certify a class of up to 28,000 borrowers who claim JPMorgan Chase Bank NA duped them into paying higher interest rates on their adjustable-rate mortgages.

In a tentative ruling, U.S. District Judge John A Kronstadt said he would grant certification to class members alleging Chase's loan applications ran afoul of California's unfair competition laws, saying plaintiffs who claim they were misled by the forms didn't necessarily need to have read or relied on the the loan...
