Black Merrill Brokers Rebuffed By High Court

Law360, New York (October 3, 2011, 5:16 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday let stand a lower court’s ruling that denied class certification in a discrimination suit brought by a group of black employees at Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch who alleged the company paid them less than their white co-workers.

The high court declined to hear an appeal of 17 current and former Merrill Lynch financial advisers who were refused class certification, in their suit alleging Merrill engaged in systemic discrimination against black applicants and brokers in hiring, promotions and compensation,...
