Soccer Groups Try To Kick RICO Claims In Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (November 2, 2011, 8:14 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Soccer Federation and Major League Soccer LLC sought to dismiss ex-promoter ChampionsWorld LLC’s racketeering and state law claims in its Illinois antitrust suit, disputing claims that USSF did not have the authority over matches it imposed fees on, according to documents made public Tuesday.

In a motion filed in federal court, the USSF and MLS said ChampionsWorld’s racketeering claims stemmed from its faulty premise that USSF lacks the authority to regulate the promotion of FIFA affiliate exhibition matches.
