Panera To Pay $5M To Settle Calif. Wage Class Actions
Law360, New York (November 21, 2011, 10:08 PM EST) -- Panera Bread Co. will pay $5 million to settle two putative class actions in California claiming the bakery-cafe chain stiffed employees out of overtime pay, meal and rest periods, the company said in a regulatory filing Monday.
In an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Panera said it had set aside the money after reaching agreements Thursday to settle a suit brought by former employees Nick Sotoudeh and Gabriela Brizuela, as well as a suit brought by ex-employees David Carter and Nikole Benavides.
The company has denied any liability or wrongdoing in both suits, it said.
