Ropes & Gray Atty Gets 6 Months In Insider Trading Case

Law360, New York (November 30, 2011, 6:01 PM EST) -- Former Ropes & Gray LLP patent lawyer Brien Santarlas was sentenced Wednesday to six months in prison for taking bribes from an insider trading ring in exchange for confidential information about the firm's clients.

Santarlas, 34, stole information about deals involving 3Com Corp. and Axcan Pharma Inc. and sold it to an insider trading group headed by former Galleon Group LLC trader Zvi Goffer, allowing the group to make millions of dollars in illegal profits, according to prosecutors.
