4 House Reps Got Countrywide VIP Loans: Investigators

Law360, New York (December 19, 2011, 1:56 PM EST) -- Four members of the U.S. House of Representatives received VIP discounted loans from the former Countrywide Financial Corp., whose subprime mortgage loans were a major part of the country's foreclosure crisis, congressional investigators said Friday.

In a letter to the House Ethics Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Countrywide documents showed that the four unnamed House members received loans through the home lender's VIP program between January 1996 and June 2008.
