Judge Sides With Verizon In Employee Class Action

Law360, New York (July 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Verizon Information Services Inc. has prevailed in a class action launched by employees who alleged that the company's compensation plan allowed it to take illegal deductions from their pay, as a judge has ruled that their claims are preempted by collective bargaining agreements.

The current and former employees, who sell advertising for Verizon's Yellow Pages books and SuperPages.com Web site, rallied against the company's system of deducting the commission they were awarded if the subscribers canceled their advertisements.
