Shepard Fairey Admits Faking Evidence In Obama Image Case

Law360, New York (February 24, 2012, 3:49 PM EST) -- Artist Shepard Fairey, famed for his iconic “Hope” image of then-Sen. Barack Obama, pled guilty Friday to destroying and manufacturing evidence in his 2009 copyright case against the Associated Press over the image’s original source.

Fairey, 42, faces up to six months in prison, a year of probation and a fine of $5,000 after pleading guilty to one count of criminal contempt, according to U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara of the Southern District of New York.
