Freedom Paper Carriers Ride Off With $30M Settlement

Law360, New York (February 28, 2012, 10:38 PM EST) -- A class of newspaper carriers will receive $30 million from Freedom Communications Inc. and its officers and directors, resolving claims over settlement funds the Orange County Register parent agreed to pay before filing for bankruptcy in 2009, the carriers' lawyer said Tuesday.

That includes $15.5 million the officers and directors agreed to pay Tuesday and $14.5 million the company itself paid the carriers in 2010, Daniel J. Callahan of Callahan & Blaine said.
