Sony To Pay $8M To Settle ITunes Royalties Suits

Law360, New York (March 8, 2012, 1:27 PM EST) -- Sony Music Entertainment Inc. on Wednesday agreed to pay $7.95 million to settle a long-running proposed class action brought by members of The Youngbloods and Elmo & Patsy alleging the label failed to pay artists proper royalties on sales of digital recordings.

Elmo Shropshire of Elmo & Patsy and The Youngbloods, on behalf of hundreds of artists, filed motions asking a New York federal court to preliminarily approve the settlement reached in separate, but related cases against Sony Music and its BMG Music division.
