$170M Honda Gas Mileage Settlement Gets Final OK

Law360, New York (March 16, 2012, 5:01 PM EDT) -- A California state judge approved a $170 million settlement Friday in a class action accusing American Honda Motor Co. of misleading consumers about the Civic Hybrid's fuel economy, downplaying objections that a recent small-claims judgment suggested the deal was too small.

The settlement supercedes a previously proposed deal in federal court over the allegations. A California federal judge rejected that agreement in February 2010, after 26 attorneys general and other objectors argued it was not good for consumers.
