Sirius XM Rocks Music Copyright Collective With Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (March 28, 2012, 5:16 PM EDT) -- Alleging an “industry-wide conspiracy” to inflate the cost of music licensing deals, Sirius XM Radio Inc. on Tuesday launched an antitrust lawsuit aimed at crippling SoundExchange Inc., a copyright collective that represents thousands of labels and artists.

Sirius’ action in New York federal court, which requests dissolution of SoundExchange or long-term oversight of the nonprofit group, comes amid negotiations over rates that the Copyright Royalty Board will set for a five-year period beginning in 2013.
