Finisar Sues DirecTV Over Patent For Programming Guides

Law360 (April 6, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Optical network equipment maker Finisar Corp. has sued satellite television provider DirecTV Group Inc. for infringing a patent for an information-transmission system used in electronic programming guides.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, seeks monetary damages and injunctive relief.

Finisar claims DirecTV is infringing patents for technology that provides access to the contents of a large database while using a "manageable amount of bandwidth."
