Calif. Panels Set To Take Up Homeowner Protection Bills

Law360, San Diego (April 13, 2012, 10:17 PM EDT) -- California lawmakers are on deck to consider several pieces of legislation beginning Monday that propose to safeguard homeowners from unfair mortgage and foreclosure practices.

The measures to be reviewed are among the six bills dubbed the California Homeowner Bill of Rights and supported by California Attorney General Kamala Harris that would establish basic standards and greater transparency in the mortgage process and protect renters living in foreclosed homes, as well as expand the state's prosecutorial powers over illegal mortgage and foreclosure practices.
