9th Circ. Hears Ariz. Challenge To $600M Casino Project

Law360, New York (April 16, 2012, 9:20 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday heard oral arguments from an Arizona city that is challenging a proposal by the Tohono O'odham Nation to build a $600 million Las Vegas-style casino on an unincorporated island within the city.

Glendale, Ariz., wants the appeals court to reverse last year's ruling by an Arizona federal judge that upheld the U.S. Department of the Interior's decision to accept the 54-acre proposed casino site into a federally controlled trust for use by the American Indian tribe.
