Wal-Mart Pulls Melamine-Tainted Dog Treats

Law360, New York (August 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Amid mounting concern over product safety standards for Chinese imports, retail behemoth Wal-Mart revealed Wednesday that it had pulled two brands of dog treats from shelves last month because they showed traces of melamine, a toxic chemical used in plastics and fertilizer.

Wal-Mart said in a statement Wednesday that it had proactively removed Chicken Jerky Strips manufactured by Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co. and Chicken Jerky manufactured by Shanghai Bestro Trading from its stores on July 26.
