Aussie High Court Says ISP Not Liable For Users' Pirating

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 3:33 PM EDT) -- Australia's highest appeals court handed Hollywood a resounding defeat Friday in the industry's long-running bid to hold Australian Internet service provider iiNet Ltd. responsible for its users' illegal downloading of copyrighted films.

The High Court of Australia unanimously dismissed an appeal filed by the The Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft and the biggest players in the film industry, ruling a lower appeals court had been right to toss a suit that claimed iiNet allowed its users to pirate movies over the Internet.
