UMG Digital Royalty Row With Rob Zombie, Others Stays Alive

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 2:08 PM EDT) -- UMG Recordings Inc. lost its bid Thursday to quash allegations the label shorted artists on digital royalty payments after a California federal judge gave the go-ahead to a proposed class action brought by Rob Zombie, Chuck D, the estate of Rick James and others.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston denied UMG’s motion for summary judgment, finding the artists were entitled to have the opportunity to develop the case further, including obtaining testimony from the label’s executives.
