Toyota MDL Judge Sheds Some Fla., NY Economic Loss Claims

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 11:00 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Friday tentatively trimmed claims in multidistrict litigation against Toyota Motor Corp. by Florida and New York plaintiffs whose vehicles did not manifest sudden unintended acceleration defects.

In a tentative ruling, U.S. District Judge James Selna partially granted Toyota's motion to dismiss the plaintiffs' claims for lack of standing, saying that they cannot state claims for damages under Florida and New York state laws if their cars were not defective.
