NJ Mayor Charged With Attempted Extortion

Law360, New York (April 26, 2012, 4:23 PM EDT) -- The mayor of Hamilton, N.J., was charged Thursday with pocketing bribes in exchange for steering the award of a health insurance brokerage contract from a local school district.

John Bencivengo, 58, allegedly accepted $12,400 in payments between May and July from a cooperating witness who worked as the Hamilton Township School District's health insurance broker, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman and the complaint in the case.
