New FCC Rules Force Networks To Post Political Ad Rates

Law360, New York (April 27, 2012, 6:24 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission on Friday approved new rules requiring broadcast networks and their affiliates to post online public information, including political advertising rates, despite protests from the National Association of Broadcasters.

Two out of three commissioners supported the rules, saying the information is public anyway and that online documents are the format most people expect to use to access such information.

“Editorial writers have called our proposal ‘an excellent idea.’ I call it common sense,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said.
