Motorola Nabs Partial Win In Apple Smartphone IP Row

Law360, New York (May 1, 2012, 1:42 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge partly agreed Friday with Motorola Inc.'s argument that it did not infringe an Apple Inc. patent for touch-screen technology, the latest development in the expansive smartphone intellectual property dispute between the two companies.

With the ruling, U.S. Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner — who is hearing the district court case by special designation — handed both technology giants a partial victory and partial defeat in their ongoing patent fight, which has spread throughout the U.S. and Europe.
