Gucci Wins $5M Judgment In Guess Knockoff Suit

Law360, New York (May 21, 2012, 10:37 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge ruled Monday that luxury retailer Gucci America Inc. is entitled to receive more than $4.6 million dollars in damages over Guess Inc.’s infringing use of a particular G pattern and color scheme.

In a 104-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin found that Guess and its licensees knowingly copied the “Quattro G,” pattern from Gucci’s diamond motif trade dress, which consists of a repeating GG pattern with a pair of inverted G's in each corner, in a brown or beige color...
