Exxon To Pay $11.5M To End 2 Water Contamination Suits

Law360, New York (June 1, 2012, 4:16 PM EDT) -- A Rhode Island state judge approved Exxon Mobil Corp.'s $7 million settlement to resolve a class action by Pascoag, R.I., residents after a cancer-causing gasoline additive leached into the town's water supply, an attorney said Thursday, the same day Exxon agreed to pay $4.5 million to end a similar suit in California.

The Rhode Island deal closes nearly a decade of courtroom back-and-forth over the contaminated water, which sickened residents and forced Pascoag to pipe in water from a neighboring town and abandon its own sullied...
