Judge Won't Compel Congressman To Testify In Clemens Trial

Law360, Washington (June 4, 2012, 7:47 PM EDT) -- A Washington federal judge refused Monday to force Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., to testify in Roger Clemens' perjury trial, saying Issa's previous criticism of a 2008 congressional probe into Major League Baseball steroid use isn't an adequate challenge of the investigation's legitimacy.

Clemens' attorneys sought to question Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, about his participation and opinion of a February 2008 committee hearing probing MLB's independent investigation of performance-enhancing drug use — known as the Mitchell Report.
