Volvo Settlement Over Faulty SUV Engines Wins Judge's Nod

Law360, New York (June 26, 2012, 3:47 PM EDT) -- Volvo Cars of North America LLC will partially reimburse a class of vehicle owners who claimed the Swedish automaker sold certain SUVs with faulty transmissions and failed to tell customers about the defects, according to a preliminary settlement approved Friday.

U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi gave her blessing to the automaker's deal with purchasers of 2003 to 2005 model year XC90 six-cylinder turbocharged SUVs. The settlement calls for Volvo to modify the warranties on the vehicles and pay between 25 percent and 50 percent of...
